Good Point!

Glimpses of a disturbed mind

This week has seen the return of that annual ritual, the Budget.  I find the budget rather uninteresting, but also deeply annoying.  It strikes me that if something needs adjusting in the economy it should be done, and if it doesn’t then it shouldn’t – but instead we seem to save up a whole series of unrelated tweaks and announce them all in one go once a year.

The Budget ends up being a strange admixture of changes driven by tradition and ideology.  So, it seems to be vitally important to fiddle with excise duties on an annual basis – and also usually a good plan to move tax thresholds and interfere with pensions.  Each Budget also offers an important opportunity for chancellors to make the tax system even more complicated – just in case there was a risk that someone actually understood it.

The Budget is also the chance to announce changes…

All-wheel drive made the cut and adds close to 200 pounds but earns its keep by getting the power to the ground – 0 to 62 mph allegedly takes only 2.5 seconds.

Some new info from Georg Kacher:

Tea N Strumpets

Why don’t you write a story about the moronic drivers around here?

That sentiment was left via voicemail by one of our many faithful readers who enjoy giving their opinion about our coverage of the local news. Often I have to squelch the urge to roll my more cynical, born-and-bred-in-the-north eyes at what my southern neighbors think of as news, but this time I had to agree with the caller’s assessment.

The drivers around here (southeaster Virginia) can be aggravating. Except it turns out the caller and I are on opposite sides of his argument.

He went on to say that there was NOWHERE else in the country that drivers are as FAST as where we live.

Seriously, he said that.

I had to listen a few times to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood. But nope, he said it, and by the tone of his voice…

Last month, Top Gear revealed that the Hennessey Venom GT hit 435.31kph at the Kennedy Space Centre. The highest speed ever recorded by a production car.

This feat of engineering – and demonstration of sizeable gentleman vegetables – earned the company a Guinness World Record, but not for the fastest production car (Bugatti still has that one). The GT’s officially the fastest roadgoing, four-wheeled production thing to hit 300kph.

Time to celebrate, then. Which Hennessey has by building a triplet of “World’s Fastest Edition” Venom GTs. Each costs Rs 7.54 crore, and gets special red, white and blue stripes. No power upgrades though – not that you’ll need any, because it’s still packing the same 7.0-liter, twin-turbo V8, which churns out 1244bhp and kicks the GT to 300kph in a record-breaking 13.63 seconds.

Hennessy CEO, Don Goldman, says “We’re thrilled about what we achieved at Cape Canaveral with the Venom GT,”…

There’s something about cars that seems to make many people passionate. They’ll talk lovingly about past vehicles that they have owned, lavishing the sort of praise that would usually be restricted to loved ones.

This isn’t something that is limited to car enthusiasts (or “petrol heads”, as they are sometimes known). Indeed, there are plenty of people who have no great love of cars, but can still reproduce fond memories of driving for the first time, or buying a vehicle and having it available.

You may be reading this passage and finding that you are in agreement with the broad sentiment that’s being outlined. I can certainly remember getting behind the wheel for the first time and I have considerable fondness for those cars in which I learned to drive. In my case, an old Metro held the key. For those readers of a younger vintage, this is a car…

Speedy Cars

Always wanted a Jag even the older ones look had a lot of style.

What is one key requirement that you would want in a vehicle when purchasing a new car? Of course, everyone wants a car that fast and can get up and go. Acceleration is an important feature in a vehicle especially when traveling on a highway or interstate. The speed limit on these roads required a vehicle to accelerate and go fast within a short distance. If cars could not accelerate quickly, there would be many accidents on the interstate which would cause even more traffic delays. The car of the future will be a throttle free transmission less hybrid vehicle. As mentioned in my previous transmission blog, this car des not have a transmission. Instead, this hybrid vehicle has separate generator motors on the front and rear wheels that are connected to spline couplers. These couplers and generator motors are operated from a control panel. The control panel is the…
